FAQ

About FOID

What is FOID? A verified identity you build once and reuse. You prove who you are one time — NIN, BVN and a face check — and share that proof with banks and apps only when you approve.

Who owns my FOID? You do. Nothing is shared without your approval on a consent screen, and you can revoke access at any time.

Is FOID a bank? Does it hold my money? No. FOID never holds money and never makes payments. It confirms who you are, with your consent.

Does FOID give me a credit score? No. FOID never scores you and never decides whether you get a loan. A business may see your credential state (for example Active or Under review) if you allow it, but the decision is always theirs.

Privacy

Do businesses see my NIN or BVN? No. They get confirmations — "NIN verified", "BVN verified", the last 4 digits — never the full number. They only see what you approved.

What does FOID store about me? Your profile, your NIN and BVN (encrypted), your verification results and an encrypted face template. If you connect a bank account, FOID reads your transactions to keep your credential up to date — businesses never get your raw transactions or statements.

Can I delete my face data? Yes — Profile & Settings → Linked identity documents → Face (liveness) → Delete.

A business I shared with — can they keep reading my data forever? Only until you revoke them. After you press Revoke, every request they make is refused and pending updates to them are cancelled. See Connected apps.

Verifying

The NIN check says my details don't match. Enter your names and date of birth exactly as they appear on your NIN record — including the order and spelling of your middle name.

Why must I do the face check before the NIN check? The face check proves a real person is there before FOID looks up a NIN. It stops people verifying someone else's NIN.

The face check keeps failing. Use good, even light; remove sunglasses or hats; keep only your face in view; follow each prompt promptly. If your computer camera is poor, choose Continue on my phone.

My credential says "Under review" or "Downgraded". What now? FOID notifies you with the reason when your credential changes. Usually it follows a change on a bank account you connected. Check your notifications for what changed and what you can do.

Signing in and security

I didn't get my email code. Check spam and promotions folders, wait a minute, then use Resend code. Codes expire — request a new one if it's been a while.

I lost my phone with the authenticator app. You can't finish two-factor sign-in without it. Contact FOID support to recover your account. Next time, turn two-factor off before changing phones.

I got a login alert I don't recognise. Change your password straight away and turn on two-factor authentication.

Why is an app labelled "Test app — not checked by FOID"? It's still being built. It gets your real name only — everything else it sees is sample data. See Continue with FOID.

Other features

What is Connected Banks? Link a bank account (through Mono, a licensed open-banking provider) so your credential stays current from your real banking activity. You can see your transactions in FOID.

What is the AI Credit Wallet? Credits for the AI assistant in FOID, which answers questions about your own account and finances. You get free credits every month and can buy more. The assistant only ever talks about your account.

FOID — Fintech Open Identity. Test mode never touches real identity data.
