Verify your identity
Everything happens on My Identity in the left menu. The Verification progress card shows each step and ticks it off when it's done. Do the steps in this order — the NIN check only unlocks after the face check.
1. Liveness check (face check)
A short camera check that proves a real, live person is there — not a photo or a screen.
- Under Liveness check, press Verify now.
- Choose Use this device, or Continue on my phone to scan a QR code and use your phone's camera instead (no need to log in on the phone; the link lasts 10 minutes and works once).
- Allow camera access when your browser asks.
- Follow the prompts — for example Turn your head to your left, Turn your head to your right, Open your mouth wide.
- When it says Liveness confirmed, you're done.
Tips: find good, even light on your face; remove sunglasses or hats; make sure only you are in view.
If it fails: the message tells you why — Your face left the camera view, More than one face was in view, The image looked like a photo or screen, or The check took too long. Just try again.
FOID stores your face template encrypted, so it can confirm it's you later (for example the first time you share with a new business). You can delete it in Profile & Settings → Linked identity documents → Face (liveness) → Delete — you'll need a new face check afterwards.
2. Verify NIN
- Under Verify NIN, press Verify now.
- Enter your First name, Middle name (optional), Last name and Date of birth exactly as they appear on your NIN record.
- Press Verify NIN.
FOID checks them against the national record. Once verified, your name and date of birth are locked to the NIN record.
3. Verify BVN
Under Verify BVN, enter your 11-digit BVN and press Verify now. Only digits are accepted.
4. Phone number
Under Verify phone number, enter your phone number and press Add number to add it to your profile.
What "verified" means
When the steps are done, your FOID credential is active: businesses you approve can rely on the confirmations without asking you to repeat KYC.
Your credential can change state, and FOID always notifies you when it does, with the reason:
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Active | In good standing. |
| Under review | Something needs a closer look (for example, a change in activity on a bank account you connected). Nothing is taken away yet. |
| Downgraded | Part of your credential is no longer confirmed. You'll see what changed and what you can do. |
| Revoked | The credential is not valid. |
FOID never gives you a credit score and never decides whether you get a loan — that decision always stays with the business.
